About the Gender Equality Committee...
"... study and investigate issues of gender discrimination and equality in the legal profession and in the legal system. The Committee may recommend such projects as deemed necessary or appropriate to ensure fair treatment and equality of all members of the legal profession and all participants in the legal system."
Over the past two years, the committee has focused on action oriented training as a result of the statistical findings of the latest NHBA Gender Equality Survey.
Last year the committee developed and conducted a voluntary certification process of non-discriminatory, family- friendly employment policies for legal employers. Training highlighted pay equity, advancement and opportunity discrepancies and encouraged legal employers to be transparent in, among other matters, compensation and partnership plans.
This year the Gender Equality Committee is focused on training lawyers to advocate and negotiate more effectively whether at the hiring stage, for a raise, partnership and throughout one’s career.
